IPTV on Android TV and Google TV
Android TV has the widest choice of players and the most flexible settings of any television platform. This guide covers installing from Google Play, entering details from your phone, and the settings worth adjusting.

Confirm you are on Android TV or Google TV
If your device has the Google Play Store, this guide applies. That covers Android TV boxes, Nvidia Shield, Chromecast with Google TV, and televisions from Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense among others.
Google TV is a newer interface running on the same Android base, so the steps are identical even though the home screen looks different.

Install a player from Google Play
Open the Play Store on the device and search for an IPTV player that supports playlists or portals. Several well-established options exist, some free with an optional paid upgrade.
Install from Google Play only. You do not need to enable installation from unknown sources for our service, and we will never send you an installer file.

Send the playlist address from your phone
This is Android TV's biggest advantage. Open play.google.com on your phone or computer, signed in to the same Google account, and you can install apps remotely. Many players also accept the address through a companion app or a local web page, so you never type it with the remote.
Where you do type on the device, Google's on-screen keyboard supports voice input, which handles long addresses surprisingly well.

Let the list load, then organise it
Allow the first channel-list and guide download to complete. Android TV players generally handle large lists faster than Smart TV platforms, but the guide is still a sizeable download.
Most Android players let you hide whole channel groups as well as mark favourites. Hiding the groups in languages you do not need makes everything else much quicker to navigate.

Adjust the decoder and buffer
Android players usually expose more playback options than other platforms: hardware, software and sometimes a third decoder, plus a buffer size in seconds. If a stream stutters, change the decoder first, then raise the buffer.
Where the player offers a choice of playback engine, trying the alternative often resolves an individual stream that refuses to play while everything else is fine.
Android TV specifics worth knowing
Cheap boxes are a false economy
The market is full of inexpensive Android boxes with old chipsets, minimal storage and no security updates. They frequently claim 4K support that the hardware cannot sustain. A mainstream device from a known manufacturer is a much better base, and the difference in playback smoothness is obvious.
Google TV recommendations are separate
On Google TV the home screen aggregates content from installed services. Your IPTV player is unlikely to appear in those rows, so open the player directly from the apps list. That is normal and does not indicate a problem with the installation.
Ethernet, where the device has it
Android TV boxes and the Nvidia Shield usually have an Ethernet port; Chromecast with Google TV needs an adapter. A wired connection removes the most common cause of intermittent stuttering, and matters more the more simultaneous streams your household uses.
Automatic updates can change behaviour
Because players update themselves through Play, a menu can move or a setting can be renamed between the time we write a guide and the time you follow it. If a step does not match what you see, message us rather than guessing — we will tell you where it went.
